In the shadows of Pikes Peak, located in Colorado Springs, 291 Colorado Whiskey’s mantra is “Hardmade the Colorado Way.” The distillery’s first copper still was built out of copper photogravure plates that the owner used in his previous life, capturing panoramic landscape photos across the U.S.

This small batch selection has won numerous awards, including Double Gold at the San Francisco Spirits Competition. The distillery continues to push Colorado forward in the bourbon world.

REVIEW:

Coming in at 100 proof, this bourbon is not for the faint of heart. The aroma is sweet, with a holiday scent of baking spices, nutmeg, and cinnamon.  It is very herbaceous and complex, but hard to nail down a prominent component.

The real star is the taste. Explosions of citrus, aged vanilla and caramel tear through your palate in a captivating way. All the while satisfying your need for a good burn. Cracked black pepper and clove coat the throat, enhancing the burn a little more.

The finale is perfect, with hints of cocoa and char that complete this bourbon’s rise to stardom. I have tried other Colorado whiskeys, but this is the best I have sipped on to date. The intense flavors work together well and develop a flavor profile uniquely Colorado.

This whiskey receives 5/5 Barrels.
