HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. — Casey Jones Distillery is opening a single barrel Friday, Sept. 25, for a limited release that combines the Western Kentucky distillery’s distinctive corn-and-cane spirit, a maple syrup-seasoned cask and four years of Kentucky aging.
Maple Finished Barrel Cut, Barrel No. 2260, will be bottled at 103.5 proof and priced at $89.99. Bottles will initially be available at the Hopkinsville distillery, with online sales expected to follow.
The release is particularly tied to the history of Casey Jones Distillery because the spirit was distilled on the one-of-a-kind square copper pot still hand-built by Master Distiller Arlon “AJ” Casey Jones.
AJ built the still as a replica of one made by his grandfather, legendary Kentucky stillmaker Alfred “Casey” Jones. The elder Jones built copper stills throughout Western Kentucky for more than 30 years, becoming known during the Prohibition era for his portable square pot still — also called a coffin still — and an innovative cylindrical condenser designed to improve production.
Casey built his last still in 1967. That still is now displayed at Casey Jones Distillery, and AJ used it as the model for the square copper pot still at the heart of the modern distillery’s operation.
Barrel 2260 began with Casey Jones Distillery’s proprietary mash bill of equal parts corn and cane. The spirit was distilled four years ago before eventually being placed into a high-rye cask that had previously been used to flavor maple syrup.
Unlike a whiskey to which maple flavoring is added, the maple character in Barrel 2260 comes from the finishing barrel itself, the spirit extracting flavors left behind in the oak after the cask’s previous use.
The result is a single-barrel release, meaning the supply is limited to whatever survived four Kentucky summers in the barrel. Once Barrel 2260 is emptied and bottled, that particular whiskey cannot be reproduced.
The release also continues a significant year for Casey Jones Distillery. The distillery has been marking America’s 250th anniversary throughout 2026 with a series of special releases, including its Revere Bourbon and The Brave single-barrel series. The Brave releases are also produced from the distillery’s 50% corn and 50% cane mash bill and distilled on AJ’s handmade square pot still.
Each bottle of Maple Finished Barrel Cut will include Casey Jones Distillery’s 2026 250th Anniversary Single Barrel challenge coin. The commemorative coin features Casey Jones, the family’s historic still and Kentucky on one side, with an America’s 250th anniversary design on the reverse.
