BARDSTOWN, Ky. — Heaven Hill Brands is expanding its Carolans Irish Cream lineup with two new flavors, bringing strawberry and chocolate variations to the Irish cream liqueur brand.
Carolans Strawberries & Cream and Carolans Chocolate Cream are rolling out this month in 50 mL and 750 mL bottles. Both are bottled at 17% alcohol by volume, or 34 proof, with a suggested retail price of $17.99 for a 750 mL bottle.
The new expressions build on Carolans’ traditional combination of Irish whiskey, fresh cream and natural honey.
Carolans Strawberries & Cream combines the flavor of ripe strawberries with the brand’s creamy base, creating a sweeter, fruit-forward version designed for drinking on its own or using in cocktails and other mixed drinks.
Carolans Chocolate Cream features milk chocolate truffle flavors accompanied by notes of toffee and coffee. Heaven Hill said the expression is intended for uses ranging from coffee drinks to dessert-inspired cocktails, including an espresso martini.
“Carolans has always been about making everyday moments more enjoyable, and these new flavors give fans more ways to make the brand their own,” said Aaron Wilke, assistant vice president at Heaven Hill Brands. “Whether poured over ice, added to coffee, mixed into a cocktail or enjoyed in a playful new serve, Strawberries & Cream and Chocolate Cream bring the familiar smoothness people love from Carolans to flavors that are instantly inviting.”
The Bardstown-based spirits company is also introducing a marketing campaign built around the fictional “Carolans Dairy Department” and a character named Carol Ann, described as the self-appointed “Head of the Herd.”
As part of the campaign, Carolans is promoting what it calls an “Irish Neapolitan,” made with equal parts Strawberries & Cream and Chocolate Cream served over ice.
The company is also positioning Strawberries & Cream for the popular “dirty soda” category, suggesting a drink made with 2 ounces of the liqueur topped with soda over ice. Chocolate Cream, meanwhile, is being promoted for coffee-based drinks and cocktails such as a Chocolate Cream Espresso Martini.
Carolans traces its origins to Ireland and is part of the portfolio of Bardstown-based Heaven Hill Brands. Heaven Hill acquired the Carolans brand in 2017 as part of a transaction with Gruppo Campari that also included Irish Mist and the Irish whiskey brand then known as Clontarf.
The addition of Strawberries & Cream and Chocolate Cream gives Carolans additional flavored offerings as spirits producers continue to look beyond traditional drinking occasions and toward coffee, dessert cocktails and other approachable serves.
Carolans Strawberries & Cream and Chocolate Cream are available beginning this month.
