LEXINGTON, Ky., Oct. 29, 2026 — Town Branch Distillery is opening another chapter in its single malt whiskey program with a 17-year-old bottled-in-bond release drawn from one of its earliest barrels, yielding just 85 bottles.
The whiskey is the third installment in the distillery’s Archive Series, a collection introduced in 2024 to showcase its oldest Kentucky single malt stocks. Bottled at 100 proof, or 50% alcohol by volume, the non-chill-filtered, single-barrel expression carries a suggested retail price of $399.99 for a 750-milliliter bottle.
Town Branch describes Volume 3 as the oldest bottled-in-bond American single malt whiskey ever released. Made from 100% malted barley and matured in former Kentucky bourbon barrels, the release highlights a different side of whiskey production in a state best known for bourbon.
The whiskey comes from Barrel No. 227, filled July 15, 2009, less than a year after Town Branch began distilling in 2008. The barrels selected for the Archive Series were among the earliest produced using the distillery’s Forsyths copper pot stills, connecting the collection to the beginnings of its whiskey operation.
“These are very old barrels we’ve selected for the Archive Series,” said Dave Bob Gaspar, head distiller and blender at Town Branch.
Gaspar said preserving the whiskey and determining when it is ready to release are central to the program, while the remaining stocks offer a preview of future single malt bottlings.
Volume 3 follows two increasingly scarce releases. The inaugural Archive Series whiskey, released in October 2024, was a 15-year-old single malt from Barrel No. 222, filled July 2, 2009. That release produced 108 bottles.
Volume 2 arrived in October 2025 as a 16-year-old whiskey from Barrel No. 223, filled July 15, 2009. Just 57 bottles were released.
The progression gives collectors a series of age-stated, single-barrel whiskeys from the distillery’s early production, with each release offering its own maturation profile. Each bottling includes a collector’s coin and display box.
For Volume 3, Town Branch’s tasting notes describe a light gold whiskey with aromas of green apple, ripe peach, grapefruit citrus and butterscotch. The palate brings roasted nuts, crisp green apple, pear and honey, with subtle tobacco notes. The finish features mature sweet oak, citrus, spice and hints of vanilla.
Extended aging in former bourbon barrels connects the whiskey to Kentucky’s signature spirit while allowing the malt-driven character to remain central to the release.
Town Branch also plans to give visitors a closer look at the stocks behind the collection through a limited Archive Series Cask X Tour & Tasting Experience, expected to launch by the end of 2026.
The experience will include a guided distillery tour followed by tastings of Town Branch’s 7-Year Kentucky Single Malt, a distillery-exclusive Single Barrel Reserve Single Malt and a sample drawn directly from Cask X.
According to the distillery, Cask X brings together whiskey from barrels earmarked for past, present and future bottled-in-bond Archive Series releases in an evolving blend. The whiskey remains in maturation and is more than 17 years old.
The planned experience expands the Archive Series beyond its tightly limited bottle releases, offering visitors a glimpse into the depth of Town Branch’s aging single malt inventory and the direction of future releases.
