NEW YORK (Nov. 2, 2026) — Orphan Barrel is bringing a Marvel-inspired twist to its latest whiskey discovery with Latverian Cask, a limited, 20-year-old American light whiskey tied to Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday.”

The release marks Orphan Barrel’s first American light whiskey and takes its name from Latveria, the fictional nation ruled by Doctor Doom. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters Dec. 18.

Bottled at 92 proof, or 46% alcohol by volume, Latverian Cask carries a suggested retail price of $200. The release launched Nov. 1 through select retailers nationwide, online at TheBar.com and at Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Shively, Kentucky.

While its packaging draws on a fictional world, the whiskey’s story connects Indiana distillation with a lengthy maturation primarily in Kentucky.

Made from a predominantly corn mash bill, Latverian Cask was distilled in Indiana and aged for at least 20 years. Most of the barrels matured in Kentucky, with others remaining in Indiana. The whiskey rested primarily in barrels that previously held bourbon and rye, along with barrels used for earlier batches of light whiskey and other American whiskeys.

According to Orphan Barrel, that extended maturation developed depth and richness while preserving the softer character the brand sought in the release. The company describes Latverian Cask as a one-time offering drawn from a finite collection of aged barrels.

“Part of what makes working on Orphan Barrel so exciting is coming across whiskies that have developed in ways you might not expect,” said Andrew Mackay, Diageo’s master blender for U.S. whiskey. “When we discovered this 20-Year-Old Light Whiskey, what stood out was how much character it had developed over two decades while still retaining the softer profile that defines the category.”

Mackay said the limited supply is central to the release’s place in the Orphan Barrel portfolio.

“At this age, you’re working with something finite that simply can’t be recreated once it’s gone, which is exactly the kind of remarkable liquid we want to bring forward through the Orphan Barrel project,” he said.

The brand’s tasting notes describe aromas of caramel and sweet vanilla, followed by honey, butterscotch, orange peel and oak on the palate. The finish is described as warm, with creamy vanilla and dried fruit.

Despite its two decades of aging, Orphan Barrel characterizes the whiskey as mellow and soft. The producer recommends serving it neat or with one small ice cube to allow the flavors to open gradually.

The bottle also gives Marvel fans a collectible element beyond the whiskey itself. Marvel artist Rod Reis created an original label illustration incorporating Doctor Doom and references to Latveria.

“There’s so much to pull from visually with Doctor Doom and Latveria,” Reis said. “I wanted everything to work together as one image at first, but then reward people who spend some time looking at it and start noticing those smaller references.”

One in six bottles will feature a holographic label treatment, adding a rarer packaging variation within the limited release.

For Orphan Barrel, Latverian Cask extends its focus on uncovering unusual aged whiskeys while introducing a different category to its lineup. For Kentucky whiskey enthusiasts, the release also offers a local connection through its primary aging location and availability at Stitzel-Weller.
