LEXINGTON, Ky. — One of bourbon’s most unique transatlantic stories is coming full circle.
Never Say Die Bourbon, the Kentucky-distilled whiskey that completes its maturation in England after crossing the Atlantic by sea, will open its first-ever brand home this fall in downtown Lexington. The new destination at 249 W. Short St. celebrates the brand’s unusual aging process, rich Kentucky roots, and remarkable history that links bourbon, horse racing and even The Beatles.
The two-story venue will serve as much more than a tasting room. Visitors will experience a working micro-distillery, an English-inspired pub, interactive exhibits, and exclusive whiskey releases unavailable anywhere else.
A Bourbon Built on an Unlikely Story
Never Say Die takes its name from the legendary racehorse born near Lexington on the family farm of co-founder Pat Madden. In one of horse racing’s greatest upsets, Never Say Die captured the 1951 Epsom Derby in England as a 33-1 longshot.
The victory had an unexpected cultural ripple effect. Liverpool resident Mona Best reportedly used her betting winnings from the race to open the Casbah Coffee Club, the venue where a young Beatles band performed some of its earliest concerts before achieving worldwide fame.
Today, the bourbon follows a similarly unconventional journey.
Distilled in Kentucky using limestone-filtered water and matured for more than six years, the barrels are then shipped across the Atlantic to White Peak Distillery in Derbyshire, England, where ocean travel and England’s cooler climate add another layer of maturation before the whiskey is bottled.
Kentucky Heritage Meets English Character
The downtown Lexington brand home embraces the company’s philosophy of combining Kentucky bourbon traditions with English influences.
The first floor will feature an English-style pub serving traditional British fare alongside American favorites, with an extensive selection of Kentucky bourbon, British spirits, European beverages and regular live music performances inspired by the Casbah Coffee Club connection.
Upstairs, visitors will explore an immersive experience that tells the Never Say Die story through themed exhibits, beginning in a 1950s-inspired British library before leading guests into a tasting room constructed with limestone and oak—materials synonymous with Kentucky bourbon production. A racetrack-shaped tasting table pays tribute to the brand’s equine namesake.
The experience concludes in a Kentucky-style rickhouse barrel room where guests can sample and bottle exclusive expressions.
Exclusive Bourbons Only Available in Lexington
Among the biggest attractions will be Double Ocean Bourbon, a limited expression that makes two complete Atlantic crossings in its original barrels before returning to Kentucky. The whiskey will be available exclusively at the Lexington brand home.
Visitors will also have access to Never Say Die’s Barrel Strength Bourbon, previously sold only in the United Kingdom, marking its first availability in the United States.
The location will operate under its own Distilled Spirits Plant (DSP) license, allowing whiskey to be produced on-site and making it one of the few operating micro-distilleries located in the heart of downtown Lexington.
Award-Winning Portfolio
Since launching in 2022, Never Say Die has quickly earned recognition on the international whiskey stage. Its portfolio includes Barrel Strength Bourbon, Small Batch Bourbon and Rye Whiskey, all produced using the brand’s proprietary sweet mash process and Kentucky limestone water.
The bourbons have collected honors at several major international competitions, including the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Global Spirit Masters and the Ascot Awards.
The Never Say Die brand home is expected to open this fall, adding another distinctive bourbon destination to Kentucky’s growing whiskey tourism landscape while offering visitors a chance to experience one of the industry’s most unusual maturation stories—from the Bluegrass to England and back again.
