History of the Single Barrel
Single barrel bourbon traces its origins back to 1984 when Blanton’s made its debut. As master Distiller Elmer T. Lee neared retirement, he set out to craft a bourbon of unparalleled quality. Reflecting on his early days in the late 1940s under Colonel Albert B. Blanton, the distillery’s former president until 1952, Lee recalled a tradition.
Colonel Blanton would meticulously select “honey barrels” form Warehouse H’s center cut when hosting esteemed guests, having each barrel bottled individually. In honor of this tradition, Elmer T. Lee christened the bourbon ” Blanton’s Single Barrel.” A year before his retirement, Elmer T. Lee unveiled Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon that forever changed the bourbon industry.
