Football season is back, and for whiskey and spirits fans, the action isn’t limited to what happens on the field.
As the 2026 NFL season gets underway, spirits producers are increasingly finding ways to connect with football fans through team partnerships, limited-edition bottles and releases that combine hometown pride with something collectible for the home bar.
Two of the latest examples come from Kōloa Rum and Sagamore Spirit, which are leaning into their relationships with the Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens, respectively.
For collectors, the partnerships also illustrate an interesting evolution in sports-themed spirits. Instead of simply putting a team logo on a standard bottle, producers are increasingly creating releases and partnerships with a deeper connection to the team’s identity, fan base and home market.
Kōloa Rum is extending its relationship with the Las Vegas Raiders for another two years, continuing a partnership that began in 2021.
The Hawaii-based producer serves as the Official Ultra Premium Rum of the Raiders, a relationship that might seem geographically unusual until you consider the connection between Hawaii and Las Vegas.
Las Vegas has long been nicknamed Hawaii’s “ninth island” because of the city’s significant Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander population and the longstanding travel and cultural connections between Nevada and the islands.
That makes the Raiders partnership a natural opportunity for Kōloa to reach both NFL fans and a community with close ties to the rum producer’s home state.
For Ravens fans, meanwhile, Sagamore Spirit is taking the collectible-bottle approach a step further.
The Maryland whiskey producer has released the fourth edition in its limited-edition Baltimore Ravens bottle series: Sagamore Darkness Falls Bottled in Bond Straight Rye Whiskey.
And this one looks like it was made for a Sunday afternoon — or a Sunday night under the lights.
The bottle celebrates the Ravens’ new matte black helmets and takes inspiration from the “Darkness Falls” moment at M&T Bank Stadium. The presentation incorporates the team’s signature black-and-red look, giving Ravens and whiskey fans another collectible tied directly to the team’s identity.
But what’s inside the bottle may be more interesting to whiskey drinkers than the football packaging.
Darkness Falls features Sagamore’s 8-Year Bottled in Bond Straight Rye Whiskey, which is distilled, aged and bottled entirely in Maryland and produced in a small annual batch.
The whiskey combines two rye mash bills and is triple distilled. Sagamore describes the flavor profile as offering notes of grilled peach, brown sugar and cherry alongside rye spice and maple.
Its Bottled in Bond designation carries additional meaning for serious whiskey drinkers. Under federal standards, bottled-in-bond whiskey must meet specific requirements governing where and when it was distilled, aging and bottling proof, among other criteria.
That makes Darkness Falls more than a novelty bottle created for football fans. There is an 8-year-old Maryland rye behind the Ravens graphics, giving the release crossover appeal for both whiskey collectors and NFL memorabilia collectors.
Sagamore Darkness Falls Bottled in Bond Straight Rye is available at the Sagamore Spirit distillery and select Maryland retailers for a suggested retail price of $59.
The Raiders and Ravens partnerships represent two different approaches to connecting spirits with professional football.
Kōloa is building a longer-term brand relationship around the cultural connection between Hawaii and Las Vegas, while Sagamore is creating an annual collectible that connects Maryland whiskey directly with its hometown NFL franchise.
For spirits companies, these partnerships provide access to some of the most passionate fans in sports. For NFL fans, they provide another way to represent their team, this time on the whiskey shelf or home bar.
And for collectors, a limited-edition bottle tied to a particular season, uniform or moment in a franchise’s history can become something more interesting than another piece of traditional team merchandise.
Kentucky bourbon fans know that intersection particularly well. Whiskey collecting has increasingly become about more than what’s inside the bottle. Limited releases, distinctive packaging, commemorative editions and the story behind a bottle can all contribute to its appeal.
As more spirits brands recognize the crossover between whiskey culture, collecting and professional sports fandom, don’t be surprised to see more NFL-inspired bottles appearing throughout the season.
After all, football and whiskey already share something important: Both have a way of bringing people together on Sundays.
Just remember, enjoy the whiskey after you’ve handed over the car keys.
