LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Copper & Kings American Brandy Co. is opening its cellar for a limited-edition absinthe that spent seven and a half years aging in former brandy barrels.

The Louisville distillery will release the absinthe in two bottlings from the same batch, each drawn from a separate barrel. One will be available to Kings Bottle Club members in November, while the other will be sold exclusively at the Copper & Kings distillery.

The absinthe was distilled from a brandy base, a nod to the company’s American brandy roots. Copper & Kings said barrel-aged absinthes typically spend months in wood rather than years.

“We make American brandy. A cellar like ours holds a few surprises, and this is one of them,” said Rob Bourdon, owner and CEO of Copper & Kings. “Seven and a half years in the brandy barrel made it something we had to share. We split it in two ways: one for our members, and one for anyone who comes to see us.”

The Kings Bottle Club Absinthe is bottled at 132.1 proof and priced at $100. It will be offered as an optional addition to the club’s November shipment and sealed in the black wax reserved for club releases. Copper & Kings said the bottling will not be sold outside the club.

The Distillery Exclusive Absinthe is bottled at 146.2 proof and priced at $175. It will be available only at Copper & Kings, 1121 E. Washington St. in Louisville.

The Kings Bottle Club is a quarterly membership featuring selections from the distillery’s archive of aged American brandies and rare cask finishes. Membership costs $135 per quarter with a four-quarter commitment. New members may add the absinthe to their first shipment while supplies last.

Copper & Kings is part of Louisville-based Bourdon Spirits Company. The brand is known for its American brandies, including bourbon barrel-aged brandy, as well as brandy barrel-finished bourbon.
