For bourbon enthusiasts who love the depth that comes with well-aged whiskey, Maker’s Mark release of Cellar Aged 2024 is a stellar offering. This global limited 2nd  release, part of Maker’s Mark’s continuing journey into extended aging, delivers a finely tuned experience for the seasoned palate.

This Maker’s Mark oldest offering that blends 12 year and 13 year old Maker’s Mark to unlock new flavors and is aged to taste, not for time.  At 119.3 proof and $174.99 retail price, this promises to be one of the premium bourbons on the market with a lot of bite.

Immediately when I poured it in the glass, this bourbon shined with a rich, deep amber hue, evidence of its extended time in the barrel. The legs are thick and slow-moving, hinting at a robust mouthfeel and complexity.

From the first sniff, you’re greeted by warm, inviting aromas of dark dried fruits—think figs and raisins—intertwined with rich, woody oak. A layer of vanilla and caramel sweetness rounds out the nose, with subtle hints of leather and tobacco offering a whiff of its older age.

The first sip delivers an extraordinary and harmonious balance between sweetness and oak spice. The front end reveals caramel, toffee, and vanilla, all signatures of Maker’s Mark, but there’s more depth here. The middle palate introduces spiced dark chocolate, roasted nuts, and black cherries, complemented by a noticeable oak influence. This adds a mature character without overpowering the natural sweetness.

The finish is where the extended aging truly shines. A peppery oak spice lingers with leather, charred oak, and a faint hint of dried apricots, providing a well-rounded and satisfying conclusion. The balance of sweetness and spice carries through, leaving a pleasant warmth that doesn’t overstay its welcome.

On the palate it feels luxuriously full-bodied, with a creamy texture that coats the tongue, giving every sip weight and presence. The no rye mash bill keeps the bourbon smooth, while the age gives it a boldness that doesn’t overwhelm.

Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged 2024 is an exciting continuation of their experimental journey. It’s a sophisticated bourbon that brings the depth of oak-aged flavors without losing the classic Maker’s Mark profile. Fans of well-balanced, complex bourbons will find this bottle to be a must-have addition to their collection. It would be excellent in a Manhattan or Old Fashion but also can be perfect to be enjoyed neat with a splash of water.

Cheers!
