A brand new player in the whiskey game, Burton James Whiskey, launched its two brands in the fall of 2022. Named after owner Shawn McCormick’s great-grandfather, who played professional baseball from 1908-1919, the Rookie Season: Opener is a blend of three types of American whiskey and has a proof of 106.4.

REVIEW:
Never shying away from a new spirit, I was surprised by the depth of this whiskey. The oldest bourbon in this blend is 6.7 years and while blends rarely meet my expectations, this one is good for a newcomer.

At 106.4 proof, it sips much softer, with cherry and caramel openings. The whiskey nicely retreats into a smooth, chilled-out chocolate marshmallow flavor that finishes strong with little to no bite. For being a new whiskey, it has notes of a much older whiskey.

This bourbon receives 3/5 Barrels.
