GUTHRIE, Okla. — Wanderfolk Distillery has launched Tallbird American Whiskey, a blend of seven-year-old straight bourbons distilled at Bardstown Bourbon Company in Kentucky and TN Distilling in Tennessee.
The bourbons are aged in 53-gallon new American white oak barrels in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Bottled at 93 proof, Tallbird is designed for cocktails including Old Fashioneds, Manhattans and whiskey sours. The suggested retail price is $25 for a 750-milliliter bottle.
“Good doesn’t have to be expensive,” said Jeffrey Cole, Wanderfolk’s head distiller. The distillery describes Tallbird as having aromas of marzipan, cardamom, citrus and mango, followed by butterscotch, graham cracker and leather on the palate.
The name draws on nicknames given to aircraft during sonic boom tests in the 1950s and 1960s. Its label depicts a cowboy riding an aircraft like a mechanical bull, a nod to the brand’s Oklahoma roots.
Tallbird is available through Wanderfolk’s online shop and at craft spirits retailers in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
