LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Buzzard’s Roost has introduced a new expression of its Cigar Blend Bourbon, a 7-year-old, double-oaked whiskey designed to complement a cigar while offering enough character to enjoy on its own.
Announced Oct. 6, the release is bottled at 105 proof, or 52.5% alcohol by volume, and carries a suggested retail price of $84.99. It is available through national distribution, online and at the Buzzard’s Roost Distillery and Tasting Room on Louisville’s Whiskey Row.
The latest expression builds on the original Cigar Blend’s rich, layered style while introducing a different taste profile through barrel selection and secondary maturation. The distillery describes the bourbon as bold and complex, with an emphasis on how whiskey and cigar flavors can complement one another.
“Cigar Blend has become one of the expressions our fans look forward to most, so we wanted this release to feel familiar while still offering something new,” said Judy Hollis Jones, co-founder and CEO of Buzzard’s Roost. “It’s a bourbon built for slowing down, whether you’re enjoying it with a cigar or sharing it on its own with friends around a fire.”
The bourbon’s production centers on the brand’s double-oak approach. After aging in new oak barrels, the whiskey is transferred into Buzzard’s Roost’s lightly charred, heavily toasted barrels for secondary maturation.
That additional time in specially prepared oak is central to the company’s approach to developing flavor. Buzzard’s Roost uses 17 proprietary toast profiles, each designed to draw specific flavors from the wood and give its blending team different characteristics to work with.
For Cigar Blend, the goal extends beyond selecting a bourbon to serve alongside a cigar. The distillery approaches the expression as an exploration of complementary flavors, combining carefully selected barrels into a whiskey intended for pairing without making a cigar essential to the experience.
The release continues the woman-led company’s focus on blending and barrel finishing. Buzzard’s Roost operates as an independent distiller, blender and bottler, combining traditional whiskey-making methods with its proprietary approach to oak maturation.
