STATESVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 28, 2025) — This year marked a defining moment in whiskey history with the official recognition of the American Single Malt category, signaling a new era for American craft distillers. Among those leading the charge is Southern Distilling Company, a North Carolina producer whose innovation and consistency have set it apart in the rapidly growing segment.

Long before American Single Malt gained its official designation, Southern Distilling Company had already been laying the groundwork. For more than a decade, the distillery has been quietly perfecting its approach to single malt whiskey, combining time-honored techniques with modern precision.

In 2024, the distillery became the first contract producer in the nation to offer American Single Malt to its clients, backed by an impressive production capacity of more than 20,000 barrels annually. That pioneering leadership earned Southern Distilling Company the title of 2025 Distillery of the Year from the American Distilling Institute (ADI) — one of the most respected honors in the craft spirits industry.

The distillery’s reputation also caught the attention of whiskey creators and influencers. In June, popular YouTube bourbon reviewer Brewzle partnered with Southern Distilling Company to select his own Single Barrel American Single Malt, calling the distillery “the best on the planet to pull our whiskey from.”

Building on that momentum, Southern Distilling Company launched its own limited-release expression in September: Southern Star American Single Malt Whiskey. Aged six years and bottled at 114.8 proof, the whiskey is described as a bold and complex expression designed to appeal to both bourbon enthusiasts and potential contract partners.

With a decade of dedication to craft and a proven record of innovation, Southern Distilling Company continues to solidify its place among America’s most forward-thinking whiskey producers — and at the forefront of the American Single Malt movement.
