The Chicago Blackhawks kicked off their centennial season by auctioning off a $177,800 once-in-a-lifetime tasting experience with Chicago Blackhawks Chairman Danny Wirtz, legendary bourbon maker Julian Van Winkle.
The exclusive experience offered six guests the chance to sample Very Very Old Fitzgerald Blackhawk 18-Year, 121 Proof, pre-Prohibition bottles, and vintage Van Winkle expressions. The Blackhawk 18-Year bottle came directly from the Wirtz Family Archive never traded, sold, or shipped, and never before released outside the family’s possession.
Other highlights:
- Blackhawk 18-Year bottle (separate from tasting experience) sold for $85,200
- Brooke Hill 18+ Year Bourbon Barrel Selection Experience sold for $77,400
Unicorn, the largest online spirits auction platform in the U.S., has raised $870,000 for charities since September – including a just-completed $450K for the Chicago Blackhawks Foundation and $300K for this year’s Bourbon Bonanza benefiting several charitable organizations. Both set records for their respective sponsors.
The combination of Unicorn’s robust auction platform and the high-value spirits collection in its 70,000-square-foot Chicago vault has positioned the company to generate strong auction results for causes that have a real impact on people’s lives.
