SANTA ROSA, Calif. — Two Stacks is expanding its U.S. lineup ahead of the holiday season with the nationwide launch of Double Irish Cream Liqueur Dram in a Can, a 100-milliliter format designed for gifting, entertaining and sampling.
Available through Foley Family Wines & Spirits, the release follows last year’s U.S. holiday rollout of the liqueur in a 700-milliliter bottle. Each can contains two servings, is bottled at 17.5% alcohol by volume and carries a suggested retail price of $6.99.
The independent Irish whiskey bonder is positioning the release as a whiskey-forward alternative within the cream liqueur category. According to Two Stacks, Double Irish Cream contains eight times the whiskey content of leading Irish cream brands. That comparison refers to the amount of whiskey used in the recipe, rather than eight times the finished product’s alcohol strength.
The smaller package also gives consumers a way to try the liqueur without purchasing a full-size bottle. Suggested occasions include stocking stuffers, host gifts and holiday cocktails, with the brand recommending serving it chilled over ice or adding it to Irish coffee.
The launch comes as small-format spirits gain sales momentum. According to market figures cited by Foley Family Wines & Spirits, the 100-milliliter spirits segment generated more than $217 million in U.S. sales over the past year, growing 7% from the prior year — four percentage points faster than total spirits.
“As consumers gear up for the holidays, we anticipate Two Stacks Dram in a Can will be a great option for gifting and entertaining, in a convenient format that will also encourage sampling,” said Jason Daniel, chief marketing officer of Foley Family Wines & Spirits.
The company also reported that Two Stacks’ U.S. business is growing 75% over the prior year, placing it among the top 15 revenue-growth brands in Irish spirits. Its 700-milliliter Double Irish Cream product is growing 180% and ranks among the top 10 revenue-growth items in the Irish cream segment priced at $17 and above, according to figures cited in the announcement.
At the heart of the liqueur is Two Stacks The First Cut Signature Blend Irish Whiskey, blended and bonded by founders Shane McCarthy and Liam Brogan. The whiskey comes from Great Northern Distillery and is aged more than four years.
Its composition includes 40% bourbon-cask grain whiskey, 40% American oak grain whiskey, 8% pot still whiskey, 10% double malt whiskey and 2% peated malt whiskey. The small portion of peated malt introduces a light smoky note, adding another layer to the cream liqueur’s profile.
To develop the product, Two Stacks partnered with Robert A. Merry & Co. in Clonmel, County Tipperary, in Ireland’s Golden Vale dairy region. McCarthy and Brogan worked with master blender Don Crowley on a recipe intended to showcase both Tipperary cream and the bonded Irish whiskey.
“At Two Stacks we’ve always approached Irish Whiskey differently, which started with our Whiskey in a Can, a unique sample-sized format that put us on the map,” McCarthy said.
“Double Irish Cream is another category where we feel the whiskey has been pushed into the background,” he said. “So, with our Double Irish Cream Liqueur, we put a lot more whiskey into the cream and put it into a 100ml can. It’s a distinctive way of looking at Irish Cream, and that’s exactly what we like about it.”
The brand describes the aroma as rich dairy cream, milk chocolate and vanilla, with a hint of whiskey warmth. On the palate, its tasting notes highlight cocoa, caramel, toffee and subtle spice, followed by a creamy finish with lingering sweetness and Irish whiskey character.
