LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Angel’s Envy is bringing two barrel finishes together for the first time in its Cellar Collection with a limited-edition rye whiskey set for nationwide release Oct. 9.
Cellar Collection Volume 6: Straight Rye Whiskey Finished in Peach Brandy & Toasted Oak Barrels blends rye whiskeys finished separately in the two types of barrels. Master Distiller Owen Martin selected peach brandy barrels to add fruit character and toasted oak barrels to bring warmth and structure to the whiskey’s natural spice.
The whiskeys in the blend were aged eight to 11 years in total. Components spent 15 to 23 months finishing in peach brandy barrels or six to 12 months in toasted oak barrels. Angel’s Envy describes the finished blend as a balance of orchard fruit, oak and rye spice.
“The Cellar Collection is where we challenge ourselves to explore what’s possible through finishing, while using the very best of our whiskey archives,” Martin said. “With Volume 6, I wanted to build layers of flavor. The peach brandy barrels bring vibrant fruitiness, while the toasted oak adds warmth.”
At 106.4 proof, or 53.2% alcohol by volume, the rye opens with aromas of ripe stone fruit, baking spice, vanilla and oak, according to the brand. Angel’s Envy lists peach, caramel, cinnamon, toasted oak and rye spice on the palate, followed by a long finish with lingering oak and orchard fruit.
The release builds on the Cellar Collection’s focus on experimental barrel finishing. Angel’s Envy said each expression is developed through barrel evaluation and blending before a final whiskey is selected for bottling. Volume 6 is the collection’s first release to combine whiskeys from two separate finishing programs in one expression.
Approximately 36,000 750-milliliter bottles are planned for the nationwide release. The suggested retail price is $199.99. For more information, please visit www.angelsenvy.com.
