Country music legend Lee Greenwood has spent decades singing about America, supporting U.S. troops and performing for service members. So, perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising that his name eventually found its way onto a bottle of bourbon with a decidedly patriotic mission.
Soldier Valley Lee Greenwood Signature Bourbon combines Greenwood’s familiar patriotic identity with a spirits brand created to honor America’s veterans.
Soldier Valley Spirits was founded in Nebraska in 2013 by Army veteran Jeff Hadden. The company was built around the principles of faith, family and service to country, with a particular emphasis on honoring military veterans.
Even the bottle tells that story.
Soldier Valley spirits are packaged in distinctive military canteen-inspired bottles featuring the number 6. According to the company, the number represents the idea of “having someone’s six” — watching someone’s back. The bottles also feature a military-style dog tag, with Greenwood’s signature line carrying the initials “LG.”
Greenwood’s relationship with the company began in 2020, when he worked with Soldier Valley to develop a bourbon worthy of carrying his name. The partnership was formally announced in January 2021, with the 90-proof Lee Greenwood Signature Bourbon reaching the market around Memorial Day of that year.
It was a natural pairing. Greenwood, best known for his 1984 patriotic anthem “God Bless the U.S.A.,” has a long history of supporting America’s military, including performing on more than 30 USO tours.
The bourbon itself also had history before Greenwood’s name appeared on the bottle. Soldier Valley’s earlier Number 6 Bourbon earned a Double Gold medal at the 2014 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and later evolved into the Lee Greenwood Signature Bourbon.
In 2026, Greenwood brought renewed attention to Soldier Valley Spirits with a relaunch of the bourbon, whiskey and vodka line timed around the celebration of America’s 250th birthday. A portion of sales supports organizations serving veterans and first responders.
Soldier Valley Lee Greenwood Signature Bourbon is bottled at 90 proof, or 45% ABV. The bourbon uses a traditional mash bill of corn, rye and malted barley, is distilled in Indiana and matured in new American oak barrels. The rye content is at 21%.
But the story only gets a bourbon so far. The real question is: How does it taste?
On the nose, Soldier Valley Lee Greenwood Signature Bourbon opens with familiar notes of caramel and vanilla, followed by toasted oak and a subtle hint of baking spice. The first sip is approachable and slightly sweet, with vanilla, brown sugar and caramel leading the way. As the bourbon develops on the palate, the oak becomes more noticeable, complemented by cinnamon and a touch of rye spice.
At 90 proof, the bourbon has enough strength to provide some character without bringing too much heat, making it an easy and enjoyable pour. The finish is medium in length, leaving behind lingering notes of caramel and oak along with a gentle touch of spice.
Soldier Valley Lee Greenwood Signature Bourbon isn’t a whiskey that needs to be overanalyzed. It’s a straightforward, easy-drinking bourbon built around the traditional flavors most bourbon drinkers expect — caramel, vanilla, oak and spice.
And in this case, the story behind the bottle is almost as important as what’s inside it.
From Soldier Valley’s veteran roots to Greenwood’s decades-long support of America’s military, the brand has a clear identity. The unusual canteen bottle also makes it something that will stand out on a bourbon shelf. Overall, this is a very approachable 90-proof pour with a traditional bourbon profile, distinctive packaging and a patriotic story that goes well beyond putting a celebrity’s name on a bottle.
Cheers!
