OXNARD, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2025) — Sespe Creek Distillery has announced the release of Batch 22, the newest addition to its acclaimed Warbringer Southwest Bourbon collection — and the first expression blended entirely under the direction of renowned Scottish Master Distiller John Campbell, formerly of Laphroaig.
The release marks a milestone for the Oxnard-based distillery, which brought Campbell aboard less than a year ago to lead production and innovation. Known for its portfolio of bold, smoked whiskeys, Sespe Creek continues that tradition with Batch 22, crafted from a distinctive mash bill featuring mesquite-smoked Bloody Butcher heirloom corn, roasted corn and malted rye.
Batch 22 will see a limited run of 726 cases, available beginning mid-November at select retailers including Total Wine and Bristol Farms in California, Goody Goody in Texas, and select stores in Tennessee and Washington. The bourbon will also be offered direct-to-consumer at www.WarbringerBourbon.com for a suggested retail price of $55.
Tasting notes reveal a rich and complex profile. The nose offers cherry, dark chocolate, leather and smoke with hints of graham cracker and pumpernickel bread. On the palate, drinkers can expect layers of carrot cake, maple bacon and maraschino cherry, followed by root beer, black licorice, cocoa and pink peppercorn. The finish delivers peanut brittle, tobacco, and a bold, dry finale of mesquite, pepper and menthol.
“The main aim for Batch 22 was to increase the mouthfeel and the way it engaged with the drinker’s palate, and to beef up the flavors at the back end of the taste experience,” Campbell said. “To do this we introduced some of the oldest bourbon we have on site, added some red corn bourbon to the recipe and some experimental sour mash bourbon to improve the overall balance of the liquid for the consumer.”
Sespe Creek Distillery prides itself on paying homage to Americana heritage, with each brand designed to capture a unique sense of place and time. The distillery’s commitment to craftsmanship and flavor innovation continues to position it among the most distinctive whiskey producers on the West Coast.
