Formally established in 2024 by Gilmore, his process by which spirits are selected has its roots further back in his history. Looking to lead a quieter life after a career in law enforcement, he acquired a liquor store in a rural part of Wyoming in 2007, growing his experience and knowledge over the years as he entered the world of barrel selections. His success in this space, including choosing an extraordinary Four Roses OESO 13-year-old Bourbon in 2016 that won top prize at a special charity tasting event, helped set the stage for people to journey to him to select from his ever-evolving collection of single-barrel offerings.
Gilmore spends many months out of the year “roaming” to places where he can find unique single-barrel picks. His thoughtful consideration of what to choose has brought a high degree of success to his way of approaching selections, winning him not only a growing fan base but also praise from spirits media and influencers alike. Rum Revival nominated Roaming Road for Bottler of the Year 2024, for example, and DrinkHacker named the Roaming Road Spirits 17 Year Belize Rum #6 on its top 10 Rums of 2024 list.
The offerings Roaming Road brings to the market vary as the year goes along, and his single-barrel picks remain in stock. For 2025, Gilmore has among his current releases Rums ranging in age from 11 to 18 years and heralding from locations like Mauritius, Jamaica, Spain, Barbados, Thailand, and more. He is also showcasing some unique Irish Whiskeys, aged five to seven years and finished in different types of sherry casks, and a few Cognacs and Armagnacs of extremely high quality.

In terms of domestic market growth, Roaming Road is entering a number of new regions in the United States with its selections, including Florida, New York, Maryland, California, and Chicago. This is joined by launching into international expansion through Roaming Road Spirits International Limited, a new venture based in Dublin, Ireland, that aims to bring Bourbons and Rye Whiskeys finished in Irish Whiskey casks to the UK and Irish markets for an “American-Irish connection.” As part of this, Roaming Road will be featured at the U.S. Embassy in Dublin during its 4th of July Celebration on July 3rd. Plans are also in the works to begin offering Rums in London, and expanding to 10 more European countries over the next year.
