10 October 2025 – The Glen Grant Single Malt Scotch Whisky today announces that the Eternal 77-Year-Old has sold for £400,000 ($536,220 USD) – significantly exceeding its high estimate of £120,000 – at The Distillers One of One Auction, which saw total proceeds of £2,895,902 set to benefit The Distillers’ Charity.
This historic sale follows the record-breaking result for the distillery’s The Visionary 68-Year-Old at the same auction in 2023. As the gavel fell at this year’s Distillers One of One, the one-of-a-kind Eternal – the oldest whisky present at the auction – was confirmed as new world record price for a whisky from The Glen Grant distillery and the #2 highest hammer price at the auction. Proceeds from the sale will go to The Distillers’ Charity, which supports young people in Scotland, by helping them to develop knowledge, confidence, resilience and skills to set them up for life and work.
Aged for 77 years and drawn from a single Sherry seasoned European oak butt, The Glen Grant Eternal is a truly rare offering celebrating the exceptional quality of the Glen Grant whiskies at high age. This masterpiece captures the distillery’s distinct character as shaped over seven decades, paying homage to the meticulous maturation approach which has defined The Glen Grant since 1840.
ABOUT ETERNAL
Inspired by the distillery’s incomparable Garden of Splendours and the maturing cask, this handcrafted vessel is inspired by the shape of a developing seedpod. The resulting 1.5L hand-blown magnum is designed to look organic, as the whisky itself appears to grow out beyond the protective silver outer cage, just as it would flourish and evolve within the cask.
Distilled in 1948 through the coal-fired, slender pot stills and water-cooling purifiers to capture the finest vapours, the spirit was then filled into a single Sherry seasoned European oak butt and left to mature to perfection for well over seven decades. Bottled at 43%, this exquisite whisky opens with an abundance of ripe berries which merge with dry spice and deep oaky notes on the nose. Aromatic Seville oranges, syrupy apricots, wood spice and warm earthy smoke mesmerise the palate to create a truly definitive taste.
A precious stone Malachite stopper reflects the influence of copper, celebrating our stills which capture a finer, gentler spirit cut that is bursting with orchard fruits to create our signature aromatic and evocative character defined by delicate fruity, floral, and nutty notes.
ABOUT THE GLEN GRANT
Brothers James and John Grant built The Glen Grant in 1840 as the first distillery in the town of Rothes in Speyside. They left a legacy of ingenuity by engineering the first northern railroad and introducing electric light to both the distillery and the entire town. In 1872, heir James ‘The Major’ Grant, a charismatic innovator and adventurous traveller, inherited the business. Through his intrepid journeys to destinations around the world, he made inspiring discoveries which led to the creation of his sprawling Garden of Splendours, the only distillery garden of its kind in Scotland. Inspired by his splendid garden, he envisioned a distinctive single malt, engineering tall, slender pot stills combined with unique water-cooling purifiers to create the evocative flavour profile that defines The Glen Grant Single Malt Scotch Whisky to this day.
Now, it is Master Distiller Greig Stables and his team of passionate whisky-makers who carry forward the rich legacy of The Glen Grant, following in the footsteps of predecessor Dennis Malcolm OBE, one of the longest-serving distillers in Scotland. The expert distilling team crafts each whisky from barley to bottle entirely on the distillery grounds, maintaining the distinct character of the Glen Grant whiskies and ensuring the utmost quality.
