FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Distillers’ Association is honoring Rep. Derek Lewis with its prestigious “100 Proof Award” for his bold leadership in championing landmark legislation in the 2025 session to protect Kentucky’s signature Bourbon and distilled spirits industry.

Rep. Lewis, R-London, was the primary sponsor of House Bill 346, which reformed Kentucky’s air emissions fee structure, removed unfair burdens on distillery backup generators that provide emergency services, and lowered costs for 99% of all fee payors.

KDA President Eric Gregory praised Rep. Lewis’ tireless efforts. “Rep. Lewis’ leadership in both the administrative regulations process and the General Assembly delivered meaningful regulatory relief by modernizing Kentucky’s air emissions fee structure and eliminating outdated, disproportionate burdens.

“This visionary reform ensures fairness, supports continued growth in our signature industry, and helps keep Kentucky competitive for businesses both large and small. On behalf of our members, we’re honored to present Rep. Lewis with this award and thank him for his diligence to protect Kentucky Bourbon.”

The KDA created the “100 Proof Award” in 2009 to recognize elected officials who exhibit exceptional care, diligence and initiative in promoting and protecting Kentucky Bourbon. Nominees must receive a unanimous vote from the KDA’s Governmental Affairs Advisory Group and the KDA Board of Directors.

It is the highest honor bestowed by the state’s iconic Bourbon industry on elected officials.

KDA officials recently presented Rep. Lewis with a commemorative barrel head in Frankfort.

Previous recipients of the non-partisan award include U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, Gov. Andy Beshear, Senate President Robert Stivers, House Speaker David Osborne, Rep. Susan Westrom, Senate Majority Leader Damon Thayer, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and more.
